month end

The end of January came really quick.  I have learned (known) that I am not good with change.  One would think that with 3 kids I would have learned to adapt to change by now.  But, I have not.  I like schedules and routines.  It is just who I am.  So I embrace it.

But with 2 of 3 kids sick each of the last 2 weeks, by routine hasn’t gotten done.

I end January without making all of my resolutions, but that is just the way it is.  Tomorrow is February 1st and time to start anew!

  • work out twice a week – great for the 1st two weeks, none the last two weeks
  • organize the guest room closet (this is the hiding place during Christmas so can definitely use some work) – done!
  • complete 2 stock option sessions – still to do
  • Remember to take care of me – not a bad month….

How was your month?  Are you ready to move forward in February?

Off schedule – oh well

So much for a schedule.  This was one of those weeks, where it just didn’t  matter.  nothing got done.  Both boys got sick, they shared germs with me and I had no energy to get anything done, and the toddler is down for the count again today.   I know my January list isn’t going to get done.  Oh well.  I will pick up where I left off and hopefully start February off with a bang.  I can’t wait to share some great easy cheap valentines day crafts I found.

Lessons from a toddler

I wasn’t exactly feeling the motivation to do anything at the end of last week.  I didn’t work out, I didn’t eat healthy, I didn’t get my to do list done.  So Sunday night I settled in and created my plan for this week.  I scheduled chores, workouts, meals, etc.  I had it all ready to go and hit the ground running!

And then it was Monday morning.

My 2 year old woke up with a cold and fever.  No daycare.  No work.  Starting my positive energetic week out on a bummer note and behind schedule.  I loved cuddling with him all morning.  Then it was nap time.

Moms, you know the naps I am talking about.  The kind that you get your burst of energy and you go without looking up as you have no idea how long this nap would last.

I was not hopeful as he wasn’t feeling well, but he was out.  For.  Three.  Hours!!!!  I was able to log into work and get some paperwork done and set up my plan of attack for the next day, I paid bills, and then I tackled the guest room closet.  This is the big resolution project for the month and I hadn’t started.  Not only did I start, I finished!  The closet is so clean and organized, that I no longer needed to shut the door.

So my toddler reminded me to go with the flow.  You never know when time and motivation will find you.

Taco Soup

This weekend has been a crazy one, weather wise.  We had ice and snow, fog, rain, and wind.  lots of wind.  This is the kind of weather that I like to stay in and bake and cook.  My favorite winter recipe is a Taco Soup….  you can’t mess it up, you can ammend it to your liking, and there is always plenty to go around.

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 pkg ranch dressing mix
  • 1 pkg taco seasoning mix
  • 1 can pinto beans
  • 1 can chili hot beans
  • 1 can whole kernel corn
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes (mexican flavor)
  • 1 can stewed tomatoes (any flavor)

brown meat and onions, drain.  mix ranch dressing and taco seasoning into meat. then add all other ingredients.  simmer 1 hour.

serve in a bowl, top with cheese or drain liquid and wrap like a burrito, or serve on top of tortilla chips.

I have also made this in the crock pot (low for 4 hours)

Declutter and organize

One of the tools that is helping me declutter and organize my house, my life, etc…. is a calendar.  Not just any calendar.  This calendar is from a blog I found.  mysimplerlife.com

This is not just any calendar.  This is my guidepost for 2012!  At first I was very overwhelmed.  But then, a funny thing happened.  I followed my own advice.  Instead of looking at the whole calendar, I just looked one day at a time.  And funny, it worked.  I started to get things done, and get done quickly.  The task of the day was done in 5 minutes or less.  So I started crossing them off.  And slowly, very slowly, the house is starting to look like a little progress is made.

I keep remembering this is not a sprint, but a marathon.  I really like and appreciate having the guidance the calendar provides to get me going in the right direction.  I have a starting point.  And even I can find 2-5 minutes a day to get something done.

Mid Month Check In

I can’t believe it is already the middle of January.  How are you doing on your resolutions?  Here is my check in

January Resolutions

  • work out twice a week – so far, so good!
  • organize the guest room closet (this is the hiding place during Christmas so can definitely use some work) – starting this week
  • complete 2 stock option sessions – still need to find time to start this
  • Remember to take care of me – again, so far, so good.  my stress level has been down this month

I have found that if I can work on little goals (for me it is cleaning and organizing) daily that helps with the stress level all around.  I am trying not to let things pile up.  Do the dishes right away, respond to emails, put the laundry away instead of just folding and leaving for later.  For me, it is better to complete 1 task then to start many.

how are you doing?

We are 10 days into 2012 – and how are you doing?  Did you make a resolution or a goal for the year?  I am pleased to say that motivation and I are friends currently.  I have gotten in my 2 workouts per week (3 total thus far), the organization is coming together and I feel stress free…

There is still a long way to go, but it is all about the baby steps!

Money Saving Mom

One of my “inspirations” for this blog, and simplifying and organizing have come from moneysavingmom.com  Crystal offers lots of ideas, tips, links, etc…  Whenever I need to kickstart my motivation I bop on over to her blog and see what is happening.  Her blog has soooo many resources available, please check it out.  And, she has a new book coming out (so exciting!!)

You can pre-order the book by clicking on the picture above.  One of the things I am most looking forward to reading is how I can save money by organizing and de-cluttering my house!!! (Win – Win)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

Have you thought about who you want to be and what you want to achieve in 2012?  I, like many, have set my resolutions to paper and am mapping out my wishes and dreams for the year.  In doing so, I decided to take a new approach this year.  I usually forget my resolutions by March (give or take a month) and then just move along throughout the year without a goal in mind.  This year will be different.

For 2012, I have decided that I will have 3-5 goals or to do items for each month.  This will give me direction and purpose as my family and I move towards being healthier, living with less clutter and gearing up for different financial opportunities.

January Resolutions

  • work out twice a week
  • organize the guest room closet (this is the hiding place during Christmas so can definately use some work)
  • complete 2 stock option sessions
  • Remember to take care of me

What are your resolutions for the year?
