2013 resolutions

I hope to keep 2o13 simple!  Since my 2012 resolutions and goals fizzled by March, last year was hardly a success in the resolution category.  This year I am only making two resolutions:

  1. Enjoy each moment for what it is
  2. clean and organize as I go

I am hoping that by keeping things simple and living in the moment I will get the house clean and organized.    I tend to put all these projects aside until I have time to work them, but then, I never get that big chuck on time I need.

May 2013 be the year that all your wishes and dreams come true.

End of Summer

With the kids back to school today, summer has come to an end.  It was a great summer.  I am so thankful that the kids love school and they have been counting down until today.  They couldn’t wait to board the bus and start the year.  I am so excited for them.

My summer to-do (wish list) didn’t get done.  Partly due to the water ban due to our drought and partly to running out of time.  The kids all had a great summer and we topped it off with a trip to a water park yesterday.  We loved spending our final day of summer vacation experiencing the lazy river, going down the water slides and just splashing around.  It was a great day!!!  (so much fun that my husband and I went back over this morning for our own R&R with the kids in school – shhh don’t tell them).

Summer goals

School is out here and summer fun has already begun!  As a family we wanted to make a list or a set of goals of things we wanted to get done this summer.  Also has a way to “find” something to do when boredom kicks in….

Some of my favorite summer goals that I am looking forward too

  • catching fireflys
  • s’mores over the fire
  • blowing bubbles
  • sprinkler fun
  • teaching my oldest son to ride a two wheeler
  • vacation
  • making homemade ice cream

Of course, I had to put some practical items on the list as well

  • clean out the junk drawer
  • organize the cook book cabinet
  • clean the kids room

But the goal we are all most looking forward too

  • Bryan graduates nursing school!!!!

I am so proud of my husband for going back to school to pursue a career he enjoys.  He has worked so hard and the rewards are in sight!

What do you and your family have planned for the summer?

monthly goals

Oops. I just looked back at my March goals and realized that I didn’t do a very good job…

  • workout consistently
  • organize my cookbook cabinet
  • go through kids clothes and see what they outgrew during the winter months

I didn’t workout consistently, I didn’t get my cookbook cabinet organized.  I did start to go through the kids clothes and see what they have outgrown…  that happened out of necessity to clear out closets for the orkin man vs actively working on my goals.

I have decided that life has thrown me some curveballs.  I am going to try and hit those curveballs and turn them into homeruns.  Therefore, no monthly resolutions for April.  I just feel that I need the month off to get life done.   Do you ever feel that way?

Back to Basics

Wow!  What a few weeks it has been.  Flooded basement.  Orkin man out to take care of bugs in the house.  Spring break.  Busy, crazy, fun.  Spring break was definately needed after the other events to recharge.  But my house is a MESS!!!  We still haven’t gotten the basement completely put back together.  We have not gotten the okay from Orkin to move back into the treated rooms.  The Easter Bunny was here.  That leaves ZERO rooms in the house that are not a disaster.  I am about to crawl out of my skin to get my house put back together.  However, as I try and be patient, I am also returning to the basics… my basics for putting the house back together.

1) Make the beds daily.  It gives the illusion that the room is put together.

2) Do it now!  If I can get a chore done in less then 2 minutes, I just do it now!  i.e.  when lunch is done, I just do the dishes.  no sense in letting the dishes pile to do them all later.  And it is fun to set a timer and see how much I can get done in 120 seconds.

3) Don’t panic.  With 5 people living in the house, there will always be a mess.  Tackle what I can, and tackle a little at a time.

4) Clean in order.  Determine what order you need to clean your house.  It doesn’t make sense to do 2 minutes in each room when the whole house is a mess.  Once you have your house in order, then the 2 minutes per room will work.

Today was a lot of deep breathing and tackling one thing at a time.  I worked, did laundry and cleaned toilets  Tomorrow the rest of the bathrooms will get done.  At least then the bathrooms will be spotless!

The Ides of March are Upon Us

Spring is just around the corner and with spring comes fresh hope!  I love Spring.  I hate the winter blahs.  So, I am all about moving forward and planning (more planning then doing, but I am working on it)

How did your February resolutions end up?  Here are mine…

  • Workout 2 times a week – almost – the last two weeks have been really good (3 workouts each)
  • review finances – always in progress
  • organize my cookbook cabinet – nope, but I did the toyroom instead, does that count?
  • scrapbook – oops – forgot this was on my list

And here are my March resolutions

  • workout consistently
  • organize my cookbook cabinet
  • go through kids clothes and see what they outgrew during the winter months

I hope you are enjoying some of the taste of spring that Mother Nature has blessed us with yesterday and today.

Good evening!  I can’t believe that January is over and we are already onto February.  I am looking forward to working on the resolutions of the month.

Without further ado, here are my resolutions for February

I am excited to build up my successes (and almost successes) of January and move forward with February.

February is full of fun!

One Day Delay

I apologize for not having the February resolutions up and ready to go.  We are experiencing some spring like weather in Indiana and I was outside enjoying it today.   I will have resolutions up for you tomorrow.

Mid Month Check In

I can’t believe it is already the middle of January.  How are you doing on your resolutions?  Here is my check in

January Resolutions

  • work out twice a week – so far, so good!
  • organize the guest room closet (this is the hiding place during Christmas so can definitely use some work) – starting this week
  • complete 2 stock option sessions – still need to find time to start this
  • Remember to take care of me – again, so far, so good.  my stress level has been down this month

I have found that if I can work on little goals (for me it is cleaning and organizing) daily that helps with the stress level all around.  I am trying not to let things pile up.  Do the dishes right away, respond to emails, put the laundry away instead of just folding and leaving for later.  For me, it is better to complete 1 task then to start many.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

Have you thought about who you want to be and what you want to achieve in 2012?  I, like many, have set my resolutions to paper and am mapping out my wishes and dreams for the year.  In doing so, I decided to take a new approach this year.  I usually forget my resolutions by March (give or take a month) and then just move along throughout the year without a goal in mind.  This year will be different.

For 2012, I have decided that I will have 3-5 goals or to do items for each month.  This will give me direction and purpose as my family and I move towards being healthier, living with less clutter and gearing up for different financial opportunities.

January Resolutions

  • work out twice a week
  • organize the guest room closet (this is the hiding place during Christmas so can definately use some work)
  • complete 2 stock option sessions
  • Remember to take care of me

What are your resolutions for the year?
